SkyBet League One side Wrexham have secured the signing of a new goalkeeper on a short-term deal after injuries have left the goalkeeping department thin on numbers.

The Welsh side have been struck with a double blow with injuries to Arthur Okonkwo (wrist) and Callum Burton (thigh) significantly impacting the club’s selection and Phil Parkinson’s plans.

In a short statement on the club’s website, they confirmed the signing of Brad Foster who will be eligible for today’s fixture against Burton Albion.

Brad Foster’s Route to Wrexham

The 23-year-old is a free agent having been let go by West Bromwich Albion in the summer. He has previously been on the books of Derby County, Stoke City, Ilkeston Town, Rushall, Alvechurch and Nuneaton.

Wrexham’s Season so far

Wrexham are aiming for a third successive promotion as they look to complete a move from the National League all the way to the Championship. To date they have kept pace with leaders Wycombe Wanderers and battled admirably with Birmingham City. At the time of writing they are currently locked in a battle with relegation candidates Burton Albion.

They have beaten Barnsley, Lincoln City and Exeter City in their last three fixtures and will be hoping to continue their form into the busy winter period. Injuries to their goalkeepers will be difficult to contend with but they have acted quickly in securing a quality albeit unproven option to add backup to Howard who was the only fit option.

Will Wrexham Sign Foster on a Longer Deal?

It is unlikely, the club are stacked in the goalkeeping department when all the players are fit, so the move will more act as a good opportunity for Foster to get fit and get his name back in contention to earn himself a move in the coming months as clubs turn their eyes to replacements in January.

Even if he doesn’t appear for Phil Parkinson’s side his name is back in the news which could alert a National League or League Two side to explore the option further.
