Wrexham sign promising Championship striker

Wrexham AFC have announced the signing of West Bromwich Albion forward Mo Faal on a permanent contract running through to June 2027.

The 21-year-old Gambian-born striker spent time on loan with Doncaster Rovers and Walsall last season scoring a combined 15 goals and was a large part of Walsall’s playoff push. Scoring a crucial winner against Swindon Town.

In the Wrexham Press release, Faal said. “I have had a smile on my face since I’ve been here. I’m excited and thoroughly buzzing to be here – I can’t wait to get started.”

What does Faal offer?

The Gambian spent time with Sutton Coldfield Town before being picked up by the Baggies in 2019. Since 2022 the striker has spent time out on loan with Hereford, Telford United and Fylde. During his 16 games with the latter, he bagged 10 times earning him loans in League Two the next season.

Faal is tall, 6,5 and surprisingly quick for a man of his size as well as this he uses his height and strength well. Able to give even the most experienced and strong defenders a tough time, in addition to this Faal is good with his feet, able to shift the ball well and take on defenders.

As a profile, the forward could be compared to previous Walsall striker Elijah Adebayo who now plays in the Championship for Luton Town. The eye for a goal, and the ability to use his frame and speed to cause problems for defences.

Where does he fit at Wrexham?

The Welsh side has several good forwards with Paul Mullin, Jack Marriott and Ollie Palmer being utilised the most so far this season. Whilst Wrexham do have some younger attacking options in Jake Bickerstaff and Sam Dalby, 22 and 24 respectively. The forward is reasonably old having an average age 27.5 years of age.

Faal being 21 adds more youth and also potential, and being a permanent move means he will be able to grow with the side. A strong campaign in League Two last season meant Faal was always likely to make the step up into League One. Faal’s trajectory seems to line up with Wrexham’s and whilst Faal may not start initially it seems this is a signing for the future.
