Wrexham’s return to the Championship after three promotions in a row has caught the attention of fans around the world. Their latest bit of transfer business could be about to shock rival fans in the league.

They’ve broken their record transfer fee twice already with the signing of Liberato Cacace and then Lewis O’Brien.

Both of those deals could be blown out of the water as they close in on the signing of Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich Town. That deal looks likely to set them back around £7.5million.

Even with that staggering signing nearing completion, the Red Dragons are eyeing a move for Leicester City defender Conor Coady.

Wrexham Want Conor Coady

The Daily Mail shared that Wrexham are interested in bringing Coady to Wales. The defender is said to be impressed with the progress of the club and their vision for the upcoming years.

Coady is entering the final year of his contract, so a fee will need to be agreed upon between the two clubs to make a deal happen.

In the piece, the Mail discussed how Wrexham believe they can make the final step to the Premier League by 2027.

They’ve not been afraid to attack the transfer market to make that a reality. Even though they’ve just been promoted from League One; they’ve attracted some quality players.

Still, with all the impressive signings so far, signing Coady will be seen as somewhat of a coup.

The defender has 198 Premier League appearances and has played 10 times for England. He was a part of the England squad for Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.

How’s Coady Performed in Recent Years?

Coady found himself on the bench at the start of last season as Leicester City returned to the top flight. With the team in desperate need of a defensive leader, he became a main feature in their squad from November onwards.

The 32-year-old featured 22 times in total in the Premier League, receiving a Sofascore average rating of 6.6.

Defensively, he helped the team keep two clean sheets, while completing 3.2 clearances per game and recovering 2.8 balls per game.

How Impressive Would This Signing Be for Wrexham?

Signing Coady would send a clear message of intent to the rest of the league. This is a defender who’s played in Europe, played for his nation, and just two seasons ago was part of the Leicester City side that was promoted.

With 198 Premier League appearances under his belt, he can come straight into the club and be a leader.

They do face tough competition from Scottish giants Rangers. But if they can get a deal over the line, it shows how far they’ve come.
