Wycombe Wanderers are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Sam Bell from Championship side Bristol City.
The Chairboys have been busy this summer under Mike Dodds, who is undergoing his first transfer window as Wycombe manager.
The League One outlet have so far brought in 13 players this window, signing the likes of George Abbott on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, James Tilley from AFC Wimbledon and Jamie Mullens from Brighton and Hove Albion.
However, it seems Dodds’ side are still looking to strengthen their side late into deadline day, as they look to loan in Sam Bell from Bristol City.
Bell has made one appearance in the Championship this season, coming on as a substitute against Sheffield United.
Wycombe close in on Bell.
According to Dan Carter, Wycombe Wanderers are close to signing Sam Bell on loan from Bristol City.
Whilst the deal is not done for the winger, the League One side will likely complete the deal before the window shuts.
This is not the only deal the Chairboys are currently pursuing this deadline day. The Chairboys have signed Nottingham Forest forward Donnell McNeilly on loan and are also pushing to re-sign Bolton Wanderers midfielder Aaron Morley on loan.
How did Bell fare last season?
Bell struggled to make an impact at Bristol City last season under manager Liam Manning, as they reached the play-offs and finished 6th in the Championship.
The 23-year-old struggled to find gametime last season in the league, with all 20 of his appearances coming from the bench.
Bell also came off the bench in both play-off matches, as the Robins lost 6-0 on aggregate to Sheffield United.
It was a similar story for the winger in cup competitions, playing only once in the EFL Cup in a first-round loss to Coventry City.
Overall, Bell struggled to make an impact last season for Bristol City, making 23 appearances in all competitions.
Would this be a good signing for Wycombe.
Wycombe have had a difficult start to the 2025/26 season after reaching the play-offs in the previous campaign, with Dodds’ side currently sitting 22nd in the league on two points.
The Chairboys have been busy this summer as they may look to climb the table and fight for promotion, signing 13 players this window, including the likes of George Abbott and Jamie Murray.
However, one area Wycombe may need to strengthen is on the wing, and one player who could strengthen their squad is Sam Bell.
While last season may have been difficult for Bell, the 23-year-old has shown in previous campaigns that he can pose a threat and score some goals. In the 2023/24 season, Bell scored five goals and assisted once in all competitions.
While this may not seem like a lot, for a side like Wycombe, who lost their main output in Richard Kone, bringing in players who can chip in with goals from all over could be needed to replace the goals Kone brought to the side.
Bell is also versatile, being able to operate anywhere across the attack, which would give Dodds the chance to utilise him in different styles or positions for tactical reasons or to help ease fitness concerns.
This could be a good signing for Wycombe, as they would be getting a winger who can bring in some goals and add versatility to the attack.
