Wycombe Wanderers have allowed defender Fin Back to leave just 12 months after his arrival at the club.

Arriving on an undisclosed fee from Nottingham Forest in February of last year, the versatile right-back has only managed to make 13 appearances for the Chairboys and has failed to make a matchday squad since early November.

League Two Side Make Move

Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke has revealed that Fin Back is making a return to League Two with Colchester United, after Danny Cowley’s side agreed a loan move to the Essex club.

The 23-year-old previously played in the fourth tier with Carlisle United during his first loan spell at Brunton Park, playing 18 times as part of their promotion campaign that ended in victory at Wembley in the playoff final.

He would return to Cumbria the following campaign, playing 21 times in what was an ultimately disastrous campaign, which saw both Paul Simpson and Mike Williamson sacked ahead of the appointment of current boss Mark Hughes.

Full-back became a slight priority this window following the injury of Ellis Iandolo against Bristol Rovers, who is expected to return to full fitness by the end of next month.

Cowley’s side have been making a few moves in the final stages of the window, also securing the services of Ipswich Town’s Finley Barbrook after struggling for game time at League One promotion challengers Lincoln City.

Good Move For All Parties

With Jack Grimmer being a club stalwart at right-back and Declan Skura returning to contention to make the matchday squad against Peterborough United last week, it seems that Fin Back will struggle to get many more appearances this campaign unless an injury strikes.

Fin Back has not really delivered in his performances this season, and with Michael Duff looking to reshape the Wycombe Wanderers squad in his style, letting him leave is a sensible decision to give him a chance to play more.

Colchester United is a good destination to head to, but will face a challenge with Kane Vincent-Young and the versatile Rob Hunt both capable to play at right-back.

Ellis Iandolo’s injury however has forced the U’s hand somewhat, so bringing in depth in the form of Back is a solid move, but questions will remain as to whether he can contribute when the former Swindon Town man returns.
