Wycombe Wanderers could make an approach for Cameron Humphreys as his chances at Ipswich Town look limited.
The midfielder returned to Portman Road this summer as the Tractor Boys came back down into the Championship, but has failed to break into Kieran McKenna‘s plans with just 10 minutes of action in the second tier.
Chairboys Could Swoop
Humphreys was able to become a regular senior player for the first time in his career last season as he was loaned out to Wycombe Wanderers, playing 50 times across all competitions as Matt Bloomfield and later Mike Dodds’ side mounted a promotion charge which fell short.
He was particularly excellent in League One alongside Josh Scowen in the middle of the pitch, contributing seven goals and six assists in 44 matches, also maintaining a perfect disciplinary record.
However, with the summer arrival of Marcelino Nunez at Ipswich, Humphreys has become a non-entity in Suffolk and as a result is tipped to leave this January.
According to the Bucks Free Press, the 22-year-old is of interest to Wycombe Wanderers as new boss Michael Duff looks to support his midfield as a result of an injury to Tottenham Hotspur loanee George Abbott.
Recent comments from the former Huddersfield Town boss has said that Abbott and fellow midfielder Ewan Henderson are out of action for at least the next six weeks, with eight League One games scheduled in that period.
He is not the only former Chairboy that Duff and the scouting department have looked at, having previously been linked to Bolton Wanderers’ Aaron Morley, with the report suggesting moves could be made for both.
Wycombe are by no means out of the playoff hunt this season, sitting four points behind the top six, having played more games than most sides around them in the table.
Rescue Mission Makes Sense
With George Abbott out injured, Michael Duff will want more quality in his midfield options to see out the season. With Xavier Simons at Bolton and Cameron Humphreys going back to Ipswich, Wycombe Wanderers have had to rebuild a new midfield over the summer which has largely not been up to the standards of their predecessors.
Humphreys returning to Adams Park will bring some of that brilliant unit back and provide support to Fred Onyedinma up front, and perhaps allow Luton Town loanee Cauley Woodrow to play in his more familiar forward role.
A double move with Morley would be a pair of brilliant additions for Duff to make and could certainly help the Buckinghamshire side make back-to-back playoff appearances despite the change in personnel over the summer.
