National League side Yeovil Town have completed the permanent signing of Matt Gould from fellow National League side Altrincham.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper signs on a two-year deal, despite signing a one-year extension with Altrincham just months prior.
The shot-stopper began his career in New Zealand in 2012, where he played for Hawkes Bay Utd until 2014.
He then moved to England, signing for Cheltenham Town, where he only stayed for a season before moving to Livingston in Scotland.
His spell in Scotland was a short one, as Gould would move back to England with Stourbridge in the same season, which is where he would stay until 2017 before a move up north with Spennymoor Town.
Gould would go on to make 78 appearances for Spennymoor across two seasons, which led to a move to Altrincham in the National League in 2021.
He would go on to spend four years with the club, which also included loan spells to Nantwich, Ashton and Chorley before departing this summer to Mark Cooper’s Yeovil.
Last Seasons Numbers
Last season, Gould was primarily a second-choice goalkeeper behind Ethan Ross for Altrincham but still managed to make 10 appearances across all competitions.
During those games, he averaged an impressive three saves per game, whilst also keeping three clean sheets. His ball distribution was also an impressive feature of his game, accumulating an 85% pass success rate, which also included a 56% long ball success.
This shows Gould can not only play with the ball at his feet but is also a tidy shot-stopper.
Where Does Gould Fit At Yeovil?
With the addition of Ollie Wright on loan from Southampton, Gould could offer good competition for the first-choice spot.
He will bring experience to Mark Cooper’s newly promoted side, which is often crucial when looking to stay in the division.
It’s a move that may come as a shock to Alty fans, but a safe one from Yeovil nonetheless.
