York City have confirmed loanee Will Smith has extended his spell with the National League side by an additional month, via a statement on the club’s website.
The 25-year-old recently returned to League Two side Harrogate Town after his loan spell came to an end, but this has now been extended until the end of January following talks between the two clubs.
Smith made nine appearances in the National League under Neal Ardley (13 altogether) since his arrival on loan in September and has been a rock at the back as well as becoming a popular figure amongst the club’s supporters.
The defender began his career at Barnsley but has since had various spells away from the club as well as the permanent switch to Harrogate Town.
However, Smith sustained an injury during his original loan spell at York City, which forced him to return to the League Two side to undergo treatment but has now been given the green light to return to Neal Ardley’s side on a loan deal.
York City crashed out of the FA Trophy at the weekend, following their surprise defeat against Nantwich Town and have also struggled to compete in the National League this season despite spending big money on several players during the summer such as club-record signing Dipo Akinyemi.
The club are currently 19th in the National League, just one point above the relegation zone and have been knocked out of two cup competitions in two weeks, but the addition of Smith (again) will prove to be a major defensive boost.

Smith has been a solid addition for York City and the loan spell could allow for a permanent move in the coming months, should all parties agree to a switch.
Until then, York City must continue to use their newest defensive boost to get back to winning ways and push themselves back into playoff contention this season.
