York City has parted ways with manager Neal Ardley following a disappointing run of form, as the battle to avoid relegation continues, as reported by journalist Pete O’Rourke.
The 51-year-old joined the National League side in September but has been dismissed as manager following a dreadful run of form which has seen the club slip further into a relegation battle.
What happened during his time at the club?
Ardley’s first match in charge was a 2-2 draw against Boreham Wood but despite the early promise, the football club quickly slipped away from any potential playoff contest and are instead staring the possibility of relegation in the face.
The club have won just two matches since the end of November and currently sits one point above the relegation zone, but have played a game more than Dorking Wanderers who sit directly below them.
Making a change
York City are now set to make their third managerial change of the season so far when Neal Ardley departs the National League side.
The club began the campaign with Michael Morton in charge, but he was dismissed at the end of August following a winless start to the season, which led to Ardley’s initial appointment.
Whether the club appoint someone temporary or target a permanent manager before the season is out remains to be seen, but they will be the third person to take the hot seat this season.
Was it deserved?
Neal Ardley worked wonders at Solihull Moors but struggled last season which led to his dismissal. At York, he used similar tactics which also didn’t work out.
However, the club signed roughly 22 players during the summer transfer window and a very small proportion of them have had success, such as Callum Howe and Dipo Akinyemi.
However, the likes of Quevin Castro have struggled to impress and have quickly found themselves out of favour.
Therefore, it would be difficult to pin all of the blame on Neal Ardley, especially considering he’s had to try and use an entirely new side that doesn’t suit his style of play.
