Barnsley and MK Dons are amongst the stiff competition to secure the services of a Gambian international this January.

Scottish Championship outfit St. Johnstone will be anticipating bids for Adama Sidibeh this January. The 27-year-old has registered seven goals and seven assists in all competitions this season, with his side sat top of the league.

Also in competition for the striker are League One outfits Stevenage, Northampton Town, and Lincoln City. Meanwhile, League Two strugglers Bristol Rovers have shown interest.

The reports from Alan Nixon declare that Stevenage and Northampton are at a slightly more advanced stage, wanting Sidibeh to “put pen to paper now” with pre-contract offers on the table.

Who Is Adama Sidibeh?

Moving north of the border from Warrington Rylands just less than two years ago, the 27-year-old has had a rapid career trajectory with St. Johnstone.

This marked the striker’s first full-time contract in his footballing career, which has since proven a fantastic decision.

Now in his second full season with the club, Sidibeh has become a recognised goal-scorer for the club.

His prolific spell in Scotland caught the attention of his home nation, Gambia. Making his international debut in June 2024, he has since become a recognised goalscorer for his country, with five to his name.

Now, the striker could be making a return to England to feature in the EFL for the first time, having attracted the interest of many clubs in League One and League Two.

Barnsley, MK Dons, Northampton Town and Stevenage In Competition

Reports state that the striker could hold out for Championship interest, with his recent breakthrough attracting interest rapidly.

Also declaring that his potential decision would lie on both footballing and financial aspects, it will be interesting to see which club could offer the best deal.

MK Dons have caught many headlines for their transfer dealings in recent windows, and have proven able to outbid third tier competition in the past.

Meanwhile, news has recently broken that Barnsley would be willing to accept offers for their talisman, Davis Keillor-Dunn. Should any movement occur on that front, the Tyke’s interest in the Gambian striker could accelerate.

Northampton are in dire need of a reliable goalscorer to improve their chances of survival this season, so it is no surprise to see that the Cobblers have been quick to make a pre-contract offer. Stevenage are in a similar situation at the top end of the field, having scored the least of the current League One top-half.

However, with the heavy-weight interests of Barnsley and MK Dons, this story could have major developments soon.

But with St. Johnstone currently sailing towards promotion, their position on Sidibeh remains to be seen while they contend for a return to the Scottish Premiership.
