Bolton Wanderers Face Challenge to Keep Hold of Star after £1million Bid

Bolton Wanderers reportedly face a difficult task to keep hold of star player Victor Adeboyejo who has been subject to Championship interest this summer.

The League One promotion hopefuls have been contending with interest in Adeboyejo all summer. They reportedly rejected a £1million bid from an unknown Championship side, with second-tier newcomers also linked prior.

However, with the English transfer window closed it opens the door for long-term admirers Goztepe from Turkey. The club reportedly attempted to sign him in the January transfer window and were repeatedly linked through August for a move.

Now, according to Football Insider, the club have formalised their interest with an official enquiry as they look to close out a move before the Turkish deadline next week.

The player has recently been sidelined due to a ‘heft sneeze’ which saw him injury his back and miss out on the 3-2 EFL Trophy victory over League Two Barrow.

Will Bolton Wanderers let him go?

Whilst Adeboyejo may not be an immediate starter this season, with the majority of his appearances coming off the bench. It would still be a dent to Bolton’s squad depth for him to leave now, with the season underway and the transfer window closed. It would leave the League One side having to settle without a replacement until at least January or perhaps hunting for a free agent replacement.
Free agents are often unattached for a reason, whether that be injury issues, lack of form or even wage demands and it would represent a serious risk to let a player go now.

What is more likely to happen, considering the circumstances of the clubs in question, is that they both start discussions over a potential move in January. Goztepe are clearly desperate to sign him having tried for two consecutive windows to bring him to their club, and Bolton may feel as though they can better spend the money on the squad and source a replacement easily enough in the winter window giving them time to prepare. It is unlikely anything will happen this week, but in the world of football and the money clubs are willing to put down on players anything could happen.
