Chelsea have been extremely active again in this summer transfer window. That is set to continue with another potential departure.
The Blues have allowed many players to leave this summer, with the most notable outgoing being Noni Madueke. London rivals, Arsenal, paid £55 million to secure the winger’s services back in July. Multiple player departures have allowed Chelsea to spend big again this summer. Signings such as Joao Pedro, Liam Delap and Jamie Gittens have all arrived at Stamford Bridge and added to the Blues’ firepower. As a result, other attackers have been allowed to leave before next week’s transfer deadline.
Chelsea In Talks About Striker Departure
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are in direct club-to-club talks with FC Bayern Munich over the departure of attacker, Nicolas Jackson.
Both clubs are in discussions about the formula of the deal, with a loan including an obligation to buy the most likely route. The Blues have one international loan spot left and they intend to use that for Jackson.
Although nothing is done so far on either player or club side, Bayern keep insisting on the deal.
The forward has been pushed to the way-side by Enzo Maresca after the arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap. Jackson’s red card at Newcastle United in May proved to be the final nail in the coffin of his Chelsea career.
Jackson’s Chelsea Career So Far
Jackson signed for Chelsea in June 2023 from La Liga side, Villarreal. The deal was a reported £32 million, with the Senegalese attacker signing an eight year deal in West London.
In his first season, Jackson scored 17 goals and assisted six in 44 appearances in all competitions. His first goal came in a three-nil win at home to Luton Town, who are now in League One after back-to-back relegations.
However, the forward was heavily criticised for his poor finishing and naivety.
Last season, Jackson scored 13 goals and assisted another 6 times in 37 appearances. A slight decrease in output compared to his first season.
Is This A Good Move For All Parties?
For Chelsea, this is a good move. Jackson’s 10 league goals last season were nowhere near the levels it should have been for a starting, big six club striker. With Maresca and Chelsea having ambitions to win both the Premier League and the Champions League this season, they are right to be moving the attacker on. Especially with the arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, who have both already hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge. Delap assisted on his Club World Cup debut and Joao Pedro scored twice on his debut.
For Jackson and Bayern, this isn’t a good move at all. With world class striker, Harry Kane, starting up front, it’s hard to see where Jackson gets his minutes from. With Vincent Kompany’s side scoring six last week against RB Leipzig, the attack seems like the least of their concerns.
