Cheltenham Town Set To Land Non-League Star

Cheltenham Town are set to sign departing Torquay United striker Aaron Jarvis on a free transfer, according to a report from journalist Jon Palmer.

The 26-year-old struggled with injuries during the 2023/24 and has recently confirmed his exit from National League South side Torquay United in pursuit of his next chapter and it appears that League Two is his next destination.

How did Jarvis fair last season?

In what was a frustrating campaign as a result of injuries as well as Torquay’s off-field struggles, Jarvis made 19 appearances in the National League South last season, scoring nine goals in the process.

During the previous campaign, Jarvis scored 15 league goals in a Torquay United side that were relegated which included a hat-trick during a 6-1 riot against Aldershot Town.

Would this be a good move for Cheltenham Town?

Cheltenham Town have lost two big-named forwards within the previous two transfer windows with Alfie May joining Charlton Athletic whilst Will Goodwin signed for Oxford United.

The Robins signed Matty Taylor and Joe Nuttall (loan) in January to try and keep the club in the division but despite several bright moments under Darrell Clarke, Cheltenham were relegated on the final day of the season and are now likely to pursue an immediate return to League One.

Jarvis has averaged almost a goal every two games in each of the last two seasons and also has EFL experience with the likes of Scunthorpe United and Luton Town, whilst also being available on a free transfer, presenting a low-risk, high-reward signing.

Would this move be beneficial for Jarvis?

The 26-year-old would be joining a new-looking Cheltenham Town side who are likely to be targeting an immediate return to League One.

A move to Cheltenham would also present the forward with an opportunity to partner with an EFL-proven forward in Matty Taylor which will continue to enhance his performances and likely have a positive effect on Cheltenham’s attacking options in itself.
