Club Launch Ambitious Bid To Land Lincoln City Midfielder

Lincoln City midfielder Danny Mandroiu is the subject of an ambitious bid from League of Ireland side St Pats as the midfielder is due to become a free agent at the end of this month.

The former Ireland under-21 international is expected to turn down the attempts from the Imps to keep him at the club and reportedly favours a move in England.

However, Stephen Kenny has attempted to persuade the 25-year-old to return to Ireland, according to Neil O’Riordan. The player is also expected to be present at the game on Friday between his former club Bohemians and St Pats.

Mandroiu made the move to Sincil Bank from Ireland in July 2022 after performing well for Shamrock Rovers earning himself a call-up to the Ireland senior international side, then under Stephen Kenny.

He appeared 65 times for the Imps, scoring 15 times and assisting on 10 occasions before his expected departure. He played a key role in Michael Skubala’s side’s resurgence after the sacking of former coach Mark Kennedy. The now Swindon Town boss had publicly called out the Irishman following a sending-off against Burton Albion stating that he was at risk of becoming ‘just another statistic’ with his career at a crossroads.

CEO Liam Scully admitted that the timeframe for Danny Mandroiu and teammate Teddy Bishop was running out and the club would soon move on to other targets.

A good move for Danny?

It would perhaps be the easy move for Mandroiu, he did not have it easy at Lincoln at times. He was played in a defensive-minded set-up and at times let his own frustration get the better of him.

At 25 years old the best place for him would ironically be at Lincoln under new boss Michael Skubala. The more attack-minded coach was more willing to give creative freedom to his players which did suit Mandroiu towards the end of his time in Lincolnshire.

But if he wants to move on, a move to England will likely be the destination. St Pats will be seen as a step backwards in his career and for a highly ambitious 25-year-old I doubt that is what he is looking to do at this stage, even if he would be the star attraction.
