Derby County have joined the fierce chase to land Celtic midfielder Bosun Lawal this summer following their promotion back to the Championship, as confirmed via Glasgow World.
Following his impressive 2023/24 season with fellow League One side Fleetwood Town, the 20-year-old has attracted a serious level of interest from a variety of Championship clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.
How has he faired this season?
Since joining the League One side last summer, Lawal made 46 appearances for Fleetwood Town in all competitions, whilst contributing to eight league goals including a brace during a 4-2 victory against Wigan Athletic in February.
During this time, Lawal opted as a centre-back, right-back and central midfielder for the League One side. He has also completed over 1,100 successful passes, winning over 70% of all duals and earning his team a penalty.
Who else is interested?
According to Glasgow World, Derby County have joined the chase to land the midfielder this summer but they won’t be alone in their pursuit of the Celtic man.
This is because fellow journalist Alan Nixon has also reported that both Queen’s Park Rangers and League One champions Portsmouth are also keen on signing him this summer.
There has been no comment as to whether either of these clubs would prefer a loan deal or a permanent switch or whether Celtic would even consider sanctioning a move away from the club once again.
What’s next for Lawal?
Following the conclusion of the 2023/24 League One season, Lawal will return to Celtic Park, hoping that the Scottish side will be lifting the SPFL title ahead of their rivals Rangers.
He will then likely speak to the staff and his agent ahead of his next steps this summer. Celtic are likely to spend again in the window and have already been linked with Coventry’s Callum O’Hare, which could facilitate a potential exit for the 20-year-old.
