Five Manchester United players hand in transfer requests for Old Trafford Exit

Manchester United

Five players have submitted requests to Manchester United to leave the club this summer.

Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho all spent periods of the season out on loan, but none of these moves were made permanent. Tyrell Malacia and Alejandro Garnacho have found it difficult to make it in the starting side under Ruben Amorim in the campaign, which saw the Europa League finalists finish 15th

The news was reported by Ben Jacobs and Fabrizio Romano, who understand that the players have been given a delayed return date to preseason to work on their exit from Old Trafford.

Garnacho exit from Manchester United is a shock

Many fans will be shocked to learn in recent weeks of Garnacho’s wishes to leave, and Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Argentinian winger has agreed with the club that he will leave since the middle of June. He has also shown a desire to remain in the Premier League.

Chelsea have been a club with previous links to the player.

Garnacho had enjoyed a prosperous season under Erik Ten Hag in 2023/24, where he scored the goal of the season with his wonderful bicycle kick against Everton. He played 2586 minutes, averaging nearly 72 minutes per game across that season, scoring seven goals and providing two assists. Winning the FA Cup for Garnacho seemed like the club were taking steps forward.

This season, Garnacho played the same number of games but played 2195 minutes, or under 61 minutes a game. Despite becoming a more senior first-team player at 20, he found himself averaging 11 fewer minutes per game. He was Manchester United’s third-highest scorer in the Premier League with six goals.

If Garnacho exits the club, he will leave having played 144 games for Manchester United and scored 26 goals.

Rashford seeks move after successful loan

Marcus Rashford seeks a permanent move away from Old Trafford after a successful spell at Aston Villa. They, however, didn’t want to make the move permanent due to PSR struggles.

Rashford may make a move away from the Premier League, with talks with Barcelona having started in May.

Rashford started the crucial Champions League quarter-final second leg against PSG and assisted the third goal, which put them back in the tie, but it wasn’t enough.

He scored four goals and provided five assists in this short spell with Villa. His best time at Manchester United came in the 2019/20, 2020/21 and 2022/23 seasons, where he scored over 20 goals in both seasons. In the latter, he scored six in six Champions League games, showing his quality at the top level.

Antony shone on loan at Betis

Antony looks to leave the club after the pressure of being Manchester United’s second-highest signing being too much. When on loan at Real Betis, he scored five and assisted two in La Liga and helped Betis reach the Conference League final with four goals and three assists.

Manchester United have been rumoured to be looking for between £34 and 42 million. A price that would allow the club to break even for his amortised transfer after three seasons in Manchester.

Sancho and Malacia never hit the ground running

Jadon Sancho joined Manchester United in 2021 after many links with the club from his time at Borussia Dortmund, but after two seasons, he was left training in a separate area after falling out with Erik Ten Hag.

The club tried to sell him last summer and thought they had succeeded with a loan and obligation to buy deal with Chelsea. He ended up playing 41 games for Chelsea, including 31 in the Premier League. He scored five and assisted eight, but Chelsea decided to pay a fee to send him back to Manchester United.

Malacia spent the last few months of the season on loan at PSV after an injury hit time at Manchester United. Transfermarkt notes that he missed a total of 70 games for Manchester United due to a knee injury, and he only featured for 99 minutes in the Premier League this year.
