Former Huddersfield Town boss Carlos Corberan, currently in charge of West Bromwich Albion, is reportedly a target for recently promoted Premier League side Leicester City, following the departure of Enzo Maresca to Chelsea, according to the Telegraph.

The Spaniard has been highlighted as a potential replacement for the title winning manager after exceeding expectations at the Baggies in difficult circumstances. The club were unable to spend in the transfer market, yet still finished in 5th place, failing to gain promotion through the play-offs.

It is reported that if the Foxes were to secure his services it would cost in the region of £3.5-4 million in compensation. However, Leicester are facing difficulties behind the scenes with finances as the Premier League and EFL attempted to punish them earlier in the season for alleged rule breaks in regards to profit and sustainability.

Is this the right move for Corberan?

This could be too good an opportunity to turn down for the 41-year-old, the chance to manage in the English top-flight doesn’t come around too often. Although the situation is not ideal, with the Foxes likely to be battling relegation, the manager has already shown he can perform to a high level, whilst also contending with difficult circumstances. Leicester still have a superb squad, that at times was unplayable in the Championship. If they are able to replicate some of that form going into next season, then they may well fend off the drop despite any potential punishments.

Is it the right move for Leicester City?

The Foxes in their statement regarding Enzo Maresca’s departure indicated that they were disappointed with his decision to leave. “Given the promising foundations established during his single season in charge, the Club is disappointed that Enzo has decided at this stage that he no longer wants to be part of our vision.”. The club were clearly planning to have him in situ for their return to the Premier League and it will take a great deal of skill to not only get to grips with a new club, but to adapt quickly to a new league in what can often be an unforgiving environment. Corberan, as previously stated, can perform under pressure and has the potential to be able to achieve great things at the club.
