Grimsby Town are lining up a January move for Championship forward Ty Sellars-Fleming, who is currently on loan at National League promotion-chasers Scunthorpe United.
The Mariners are currently down to 13th in League Two ahead of Saturday’s clash against Notts County but are only three points shy of the play-off places.
With the January transfer window thoroughly around the corner, clubs across the EFL are beginning to shift their focus on to strengthening their squads and Grimsby appear to be in the market for a new striker.
Sellars-Fleming emerges on Grimsby’s radar
According to a report from journalist Mike White, Grimsby Town have set their sights on signing Hull City forward Ty Sellars-Fleming on loan.
The 20-year-old is currently on loan at Scunthorpe United until the end of January, where he has impressed so far under manager Andy Butler.
Grimsby have been credited with an interest, but they aren’t the only League Two side interested in signing the forward on loan next month, though no other side has been mentioned as of yet.
How has he fared this season?
After earning his first taste of National League football on loan at Gateshead last season, Sellars-Fleming has kicked on a new level this time around.
Across all competitions, he’s made 14 appearances for Scunthorpe since arriving on loan in September and has contributed to six goals.
He scored in Scunthorpe’s most recent appearance against Tamworth in a 3-1 win and appears likely to be involved in tomorrow’s FA Trophy match against Peterborough Sports.
Is he EFL ready?
Sellars-Fleming had a difficult time with Gateshead due to their drop in-form, but he did leave a positive impression with the club.
His spell at Scunthorpe has allowed him to move up the gears and has developed himself into a goal-scoring forward so far this season.
Ultimately, the next stage for the forward is for him to make his name in the EFL, get some consistent minutes under his belt and retain his scoring touch at a higher level.
The only way he’s going to achieve that is by moving to the EFL, whether that’s in January or next season but given his current finishing touch this campaign, next month could be the perfect time to test the waters.
