Arsenal’s long awaited transfer for Viktor Gyökeres could be at serious risk of collapse according to reports in Portugal, despite Fabrizio Romano’s assurances.

The battle to sign the star striker appeared to be nearing its conclusion, after fending off the likes of Manchester United and clubs in Saudi Arabia, Arsenal looked to have got their man.

The battle between Gyökeres and Sporting resulted in the forward not turning up to training in an attempt to force a move which prompted an angry response from the club’s president.

Despite this, Arsenal closed in on a fee with Romano confirming that a deal was close and that a “here we go” was expected soon.

Arsenal Gyökeres Transfer at Risk of Collapse

Despite the assurances from Romano, reports in Portugal have suggested that the transfer is at serious risk of collapse due to a disagreement over funding between the two clubs.

Record claims: ‘Just when everything seemed to be heading toward a conclusion to the long standoff between Gyökeres and Sporting, after Arsenal and the player’s agent presented a deal that guaranteed Sporting a fixed €70 million plus €10 million in add ons, talks between the three parties reached a dead end this Monday and are at risk of collapsing completely’

‘There is a disagreement regarding the bonuses, as Sporting is demanding that the variable component of the proposal, of €10 million, be easily achieved whilst Arsenal are resisting this’ later adding that there is a ‘serious risk that negotiations will collapse completely’.

Where is the truth in the Gyökeres saga?

The truth is that the two clubs are nearing a deal, reports in Portugal often over inflate issues and take a more sensationalist approach to their news reporting.

There may be discussion on the structure of the add ons but this is a normal part of any transfer negotiations. Both sides will likely compromise a little and the transfer will be completed in the next few days.

It reminds me of the Bruno Fernandes saga, with reports in Portugal often claiming that the deal was off or that Manchester United were not offering enough. But the deal proceeded as expected. I expect a “here we go” soon from Fabrizio Romano.
