League One Boss Reacts to Championship and Birmingham City Interest in Player

Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson has had his say on the reported interest from Championship sides and Birmingham City in star player Harrison Burrows.

The talented 22-year-old has come off the back of an award-winning campaign, where he picked up last season’s League One Player of the Season, which has prompted intense speculation over his future.

Posh chief Darragh MacAnthony revealed that ““three Championship clubs have constantly been bidding for him and one massive League One club really wants him.”  The identity of Championship clubs were revealed to be Sheffield United, Preston North End and another unnamed club, whilst the third tier side was later identified as Birmingham City.

Despite the interest, the club appears to be no closer to agreeing a deal than before, a situation of which Ferguson admitted was frustrating.

“The situation with Harrison is frustrating for him and me. We are trying to protect him and the club as he is a valuable asset. He wanted to play at Spalding, but I felt it was too much of a risk. He will play on Saturday if nothing happens though, as he needs to build his work up. And at the moment, nothing is happening.” (quotes via the Lancashire Post)

Where does this leave Peterborough United and Burrows?

There is a clear sense of frustration coming from within the camp, for issues that are largely beyond their control. It is likely that, had the Sheffield United take-over already gone through then he would already have been unveiled at the Blades. The additional interest may have complicated matters further, but if they are either unwilling to meet the price, or the player would prefer a move elsewhere, it only looks to elongate the process.

Burrows is missing vital pre-season minutes, as if he picks up an injury it could rule out a move all together. Which will not be good for Peterborough, his eventual suitors or the player. The sooner the matter is resolved the better for all parties.
