Championship side Leicester City are deep into negotiations with League One Huddersfield Town as they attempt to agree a deal ahead of the transfer deadline day chaos.
Huddersfield Town are pushing for promotion back to the second tier after failing to mount a serious challenge last year. They have recruited well with the likes of Birmingham City’s Alfie May joining already this summer.
However, it would appear as though the club are not yet finished in the transfer window with a new player now increasingly likely to join from the Championship.
Huddersfield Town in Transfer Negotiations for Leicester City’s Former Cardiff City Man Will Alves
Huddersfield Town have identified Will Alves as a potential transfer target and have begun negotiations with the Foxes. The 20-year-old is primarily an attacking midfielder, but has played on the wing in the past.
The move would only be a season-long loan deal rather than a permanent transfer as Leicester do rate the player highly, according to FLW. However, Marti Cifuentes prefers other options to the player at the moment.
Alves made 15 appearances for Cardiff last season, scoring one goal and providing three assists as the Bluebirds were relegated from the Championship. Although the season ended in disappointment for the youngster, his performances were often a bright point.
But with the season already underway and no clear sign of gametime for his parent club, a loan move appears to be the best option for all.
Huddersfield Town’s Ambitions for the League One Season
Huddersfield are pushing for promotion. Last season despite some good recruitment with the likes of Joe Taylor and Dion Charles, the club never really looked settled. Michael Duff did an ok job, but after dropping out of the play-off places the club decided to make a change. Jon Worthington stepped up to take over as a caretaker, but results went from bad to worse. In his 14 games in charge, he only won four resulting in another season in League One.
Lee Grant then took over for this season. The former goalkeeper has some serious coaching pedigree behind him, despite a lack of first team management experience. His time at Ipswich Town is notable alongside Kieran McKenna and he has brought a lot of that style to the club. He will be disappointed with the defeat last time out, but there is little a manager can do with a kamikaze goalkeeper in the first half.
