Leyton Orient have confirmed a defensive boost to their squad, ahead of Monday’s trip to Tamworth in the FA Cup.
The League One outfit are involved in the final match of the opening round of this season’s FA Cup, and following several noticeable upsets, they’ll be hopeful that they aren’t added to that list.
One way to ensure that is by ensuring their squad is as strong as possible, and this has been helped by Sunday’s development.
Leyton Orient confirm Chinedu return
As confirmed via a statement from the football club, Leyton Orient have activated their recall clause in the contract of out-on-loan defender Phillip Chinedu.
Chinedu was mid-way through a loan stint with National League side Wealdstone, where he has left a lasting positive impression due to the nature of his performances with the club.
Similarly, Chinedu also isn’t cup-tied so is eligible to go into Leyton Orient’s squad for their FA Cup clash against Tamworth on Monday.
How did he fare for Wealdstone?
After joining the National League side on loan in early August, Chinedu made 17 appearances across all competitions for Sam Cox’s side.
He made his debut the day after signing for the club, helping to keep a clean sheet during a 2-0 victory against Truro City.
Chinedu’s first goal involvement came in late-August, picking up an assist for Micah Obiero’s strike during a 2-1 loss against Boston United – with his other arriving recently during a 4-2 victory against Sutton United.
An FA Cup boost for Orient
With Chinedu already playing against Tamworth during a 1-1 draw last month, he will have knowledge on how they are likely to setup.
The FA Cup has already brought out plenty of shocks with the likes of AFC Wimbledon, Notts County and Reading being eliminated by Non-League sides, and Leyton Orient will be praying that their name isn’t added to that.
Chinedu has impressed so far this season and has certainly done enough to challenge for a starting role on Monday, but whether he’s handed that opportunity remains to be seen.
