Lincoln City Make Significant Offer For League Two Forward
Lincoln City have reportedly made a significant bid for Cheltenham Town forward Rob Street this summer.
The 22-year-old has a contract with Michael Flynn’s side until 2026, meaning the Imps would need to pay a fee to secure his services.
The player suffered a knee injury last season which all but ended his season at the halfway stage. However, he did make 22 appearances in League One scoring twice.
Lincoln are on the lookout for a replacement for Joe Taylor, who came in on loan in the second half of the season from Luton Town. The Lincolnshire based side have favoured permanent moves over loan deals, with the view to develop players pre-peak and gain later down the line from potential resale value.
Jon Palmer, a Cheltenham Town journalist has indicated that the Imps have made a significant bid for the striker. The Imps are understood to be long-term admirers of the player having looked at a potential signing last year.
Street would join a fit again Tyler Walker, Ben House, Freddie Draper and Jovon Makama as the club’s recognised strikers which perhaps indicates the latter may head out on a loan spell.
A good move for Lincoln City?
Lincoln in the past have struggled for attacking options, however, last season saw a change with the addition of Walker and emergence of Makama and Draper.
Taylor was a fantastic addition to the club in January but with Walker suffering from injuries, Ben House having had spells out and Draper moving from League Two up to League One it was clear that the club needed additional reinforcements going into the final months of the window.
The influx of striking options coincided with the superb unbeaten run under new manager Michael Skubala towards the end of the season.
Street has been admired by the Imps for a while now. They were impressed by his season at Shrewsbury Town the season before last and were hoping to sign him. At 22 years old he fits the pre-peak requirements set by the club.
If nurtured and placed in an attacking team such as Skubala’s side he could thrive and move up the leagues in years to come, whether that be with the Imps or another side.
