Manchester United First Team Star Demands Exit After Humiliating Defeat

It’s been a frantic summer at Manchester United after a dismal 2024/2025 season. Ruben Amorim was appointed in November 2024 after the sacking of Eric Ten Hag. However, United saw no improvement under the Portuguese manager, as they finished in 16th place in the Premier League and Europa League runners-up.

Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have set the Red devils back a combined £210 million. There have been no permanent outgoings so far, with Alejandro Garnacho set for a move to Chelsea in the next 24 hours. Another United player has told the club he wants to leave, but on a loan deal.

Manchester United Star Kobbie Mainoo Asks To Leave On Loan

According to David Ornstein, Manchester United star, Kobbie Mainoo, has informed the club of his wish to leave on loan before next Monday’s deadline.

The 20 year old has told United he has no plans to leave the club permanently, but wants a loan move to increase his game time. Ruben Amorim’s system and Bruno Fernandes‘ brilliance has limited Mainoo’s game time since the manager’s arrival back in November.

With just one space for an attacking eight, Amorim has consistently favoured Fernandes over the Englishman. Manchester United have made it clear they will not allow a loan move before next week’s deadline and they expect the England international to stay and fight for his place. With the World cup coming up next year, Mainoo will be trying anything to increase his minutes.

How Did Mainoo Fare Last Season?

Mainoo made just 25 Premier League appearances last season, with the majority coming off the bench. Amorim looked to utilise the midfielder more in the Europa League, where Mainoo played eight times. The Englishman scored twice and assisted once in United’s run to the final, where they were eventually beaten by Tottenham Hotspurs one-nil.

The season before was where Mainoo broke through in to the first team setup at Old Trafford. His impressive performances led to an Euro 2024 call up for England. Mainoo made the midfield position his own, striking up a great partnership with Declan Rice as the Three Lions made it all the way to the final. Spain proved too strong for Gareth Southgate’s men.

Where Will Mainoo Go?

As it stands, Manchester United’s stance is clear. Mainoo will not be allowed to leave on loan before the deadline and he is expected to fight for his place in the side. The midfielder played the full 90 minutes in the Carabao cup defeat to League Two Grimsby Town. Mainoo was a standout in a dismal United side, with the Englishman managing to grab himself an assist.

Both Chelsea and Spurs have held long term interest in Mainoo’s services. However, it’s newly-promoted Leeds United that have been credited with interest in the last 24 hours. A move to historic rivals, Leeds, would be the ultimate sucker-punch for United.
