Manchester United Make Shock Last Minute Move for Premier League Star

Manchester United

Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United have suffered a disappointing start to the season. The humiliating defeat to Grimsby Town put their weaknesses on full display. A 3-2 victory over Burnley will have had some welcome relief in the Premier League, but with Manchester City and Chelsea coming up in the next couple of games, recruits are needed.

One of the problem areas for Man Utd is the goalkeeping position. Andre Onana has not been fit for purpose and embarrassed himself in the EFL Cup second round, Altay Bayindir has done a slightly better job, but is also not close to the first team quality the club needs.

The club have been in talks with Royal Antwerp for Senne Lammens, but what should have been a simple deal has proved difficult. Which has prompted Manchester United decision makers to move on to a new target.

Manchester United Return for Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez

Manchester United have now returned to the table to negotiate a deal to sign Emi Martinez. The talks for Lammens is still ongoing, but the club are now considering other options due to the lack of progress. The Premier League goalkeeper has been pushing for a move to Old Trafford throughout the window and Ruben Amorim did make a loan approach a few weeks ago.

That loan offer was turned down, but a new approach has now been made with just 48 hours of the window to go according to Fabrizio Romano.

Urgent Need for New Goalkeeper Hides Other Issues

Whilst no one can deny the MUFC squad needs a new number one between the sticks, the urgency of the situation has hidden other issues. Ruben Amorim opted to bolster the attack after a humiliating goal return last season. Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko all look on paper to be good signings. However, the midfield remains a key issue. Bruno Fernandes has been playing in the double pivot alongside Casemiro, both have quality but are struggling to keep pace. Kobi Mainoo is repeatedly asking to leave the club and Manuel Ugarte hasn’t quite shown his talent yet.

The club’s pursuit of Baleba from Brighton showed that they acknowledge the problem, and have the funds to do so. However, as the window nears its end there is less and less chance that the much needed injection of pace will come. Which could ultimately prove to be Ruben Amorim’s downfall. The Manchester United transfer window could depend on the next two days.
