Manchester United

Manchester United have decided on the future of winger Marcus Rashford, with Paris Saint-Germain reigniting interest.

Manchester United are ready to let their long-serving forwars Marcus Rashford leave this club this summer, with long-time admirers Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) prepared to rekindle their interest.

Rashford has made 402 appearances across all competitions for Manchester United, scoring 131 goals and assisting 66 times so far during his time at Old Trafford.

Rashford’s recent form

Rashford had an impressive 2022/2023 campaign, where he scored 30 times and assisted ten times across the season, helping United finish third and win the Carabao Cup. His impressive performances could have been a factor in the 26-year-old earning a new contract.

Rashford has been unable to represent them heights this season, where he has only 13 goal contributions throughout the campaign, struggling to make a consistent impact for his boyhood side.

His form for the Red Devils could have been the reason for being dropped from England’s Euros squad.

Rashford’s situation

Graeme Bailey has reported that Manchester United are ready to let Rashford leave the club this summer and will not stand in his way if sufficient interest is shown.

PSG are once again keen on Rashford after having a previous interest in the Englishmen; the situation is different to the last time the French side were interested, though, with Rashford more open to the move than before.

PSG are prepared to make a move, but only will move in for a deal if they receive encouragement from United and Rashford. The winger has wages of around £325,000 a week, potentially making it difficult for many clubs to move in for the winger if he did not take a pay cut; PSG are one of the few clubs who could be able to afford the Academy graduate.

Why could Rashford leave?

The first reason why Rashford could leave is due to ownership; the new owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has taken control of the sporting side, and GOAL have reported that a Rashford sale could raise funds to help bring in other players.

Ratcliffe wants to bring in young talent and grow them into stars; they have recently been linked to Xavi Simons and Benjamin Sesko. If Rashford does leave United, he could generate an excellent fee to help supply signings like these.

Another reason Rashford could leave Manchester United and sign for PSG is due to Kylian Mbappe leaving the French side, bringing in another versatile forward who can play both on the wing and centrally could strengthen the Ligue 1 winners attack alongside the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Randal Kolo Muani and Goncalo Ramos.

With the ambition of trying to win the Champions League, Rashford could be a major signing in boosting the attack with goal contributions and lightning speed.

Why do PSG want Rashford?

After losing Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid, bringing in some attacking reinforcement could be crucial for the Ligue 1 outlet to remain dominant in France and push on in the Champions League.

Rashford could be a crucial player for the French side. With his blistering speed and dribbling ability matched with his goal contributions, he could play either centrally or on the wing effectively. This could add versatility, which PSG may need with only two out-and-out strikers, Kolo Muani and Goncalo Ramos, and also having only one natural left winger, Bradley Barcola.

Excluding Mbappe, only Goncalo Ramos has more than ten goals in the Ligue 1 season; adding Rashford could help bring more goals into the team.
