Peterborough United are among a number of EFL clubs expected to trigger the release clause of Isaac Lee, the highly rated Flint Town United central defender, according to fresh reports circulating this week.
The 6 ft 5 in defender has attracted widespread interest, with Stevenage, Plymouth Argyle, Walsall, Bromley, Salford City and Shrewsbury Town also believed to be monitoring the situation closely. With Lee’s clause understood to be accessible, movement is anticipated in the coming days.

For Peterborough, the interest fits a well-established recruitment pattern. Under Luke Williams, the club have enjoyed a resurgence built on progressive football and their sharp eye for emerging talent can lean into that. They’re known for plucking players from relative obscurity and developing them into high-value assets. That approach has been particularly successful in defensive recruitment.
In recent seasons, the likes of Harrison Burrows and Emmanuel Fernandez have thrived after arriving without a major profile, going on to become key figures and, in Burrows’ case, one of the most productive full-backs in the EFL. Lee’s profile appears to align neatly with that pathway.
Isaac Lee
Lee joined Flint Town United initially on loan from Radcliffe FC, before the move was made permanent in January 2025 with an 18-month contract agreed. He enjoyed an impressive Cymru Premier campaign last season, performances that quickly placed him on the radar of EFL scouts.
Speaking earlier in the season, Flint manager Lee Fowler confirmed that bids had been accepted and that Lee was expected to move on, describing the level of interest as high calibre and crediting the defender’s consistency and development.
Lee’s background includes time in the academy system at Stoke City, alongside loan spells with AFC Fylde, Ramsbottom United and Stafford Rangers. That varied grounding has helped shape a defender noted for his physical presence, aerial strength and composure in possession.
With multiple clubs poised to act, Peterborough United’s interest places them firmly in the mix, and their recent track record of developing defenders may prove a decisive factor should Lee opt for a move into the EFL in the coming days.
Perfect fit
There is no doubt that Peterborough is a perfect fit. They’re a side with a reputation for developing talent, and under Williams, it feels like they’re a club on the move.
There could also be immediate opportunities. They’ve had a nightmare in terms of injuries across the back line, with David Okagbue the latest in a long line of defenders on the sidelines.
Lee might be one for the future, and if so, Posh is the place to be. For the here and now, a League One move could be more risky, but if demand for defenders outstrips supply in their squad, it could be the perfect storm for the Flint man.
