After a tough run of form in 2026 which forced their play-off hopes to come crashing down, Solihull Moors can now turn their attention to next season after becoming the second club to confirm their retained list.
Chris Millington’s side went from play-off outsiders to relegation candidates, before regaining their form with big wins against Boreham Wood and Yeovil Town to ensure their 14th-place finish in the National League.
After Aldershot confirmed their release list on Monday, Solihull have become the second National League side to publish theirs, and their list could make for a huge sense of positivity going into pre-season.
Solihull Moors confirm several summer departures
After replacing Matt Taylor in September, the 2025/26 season has been somewhat of a rollercoaster for Solihull. Despite a surprise FA Cup qualifying round exit, Solihull lost just three (in regulation time) of their 16 matches between mid-October and mid-January, firing them to a potential play-off push.
However, after a tough run of fixtures against the likes of Rochdale, York City and Carlisle, the Moors struggled to find their feet and underwent a ten-match winless run which almost plummeted them into relegation contention.
Back-to-back home wins over Altrincham and Boreham Wood ensured their survival and allowed them to end on a somewhat positive note.
Now that the season has ended, Solihull have confirmed via their social media platforms that six players have been released, including seven-goal forward Bradley Stevenson.
Stevenson joined from Billericay Town and adapted himself to the rapid rise through the non-League system. His 2025/26 season was the best campaign of his career in terms of scoring at the top level, but it wasn’t enough to secure him a new contract.
Centre-back Alex Whitmore’s exit was confirmed before the club’s home defeat against Boston United just under two weeks ago.
The full list of departing players is;
- Bradley Stevenson, Emmanuel Sonupe, Alex Whitmore, Olly Tipton, Kyle Moseley and Aaron Flahavan
Elsewhere, experienced goalkeeper Laurie Walker has been offered a new contract by the National League side, after a campaign which saw him keep 11 clean sheets.
Why the retained list, should excite Moors’ fans
Last season, Solihull released 15 players from their squad and had to undergo almost an entire club rebuild – whereas this time around, they have 12 players under contract for next season including some of their key players.
Captain Jamey Osborne is one of the standout names, alongside defender Tyler French and strikers Conor Wilkinson and Jacob Wakeling, which creates a strong spine to their side, which Millington may opt to build around.
Whilst it’s important to remember that contracted players can still be moved on, Solihull have two full-backs, several midfielders and their front two all under contract which protects the club financially and allows the recruitment team to highlight and focus more on the areas that do need improving the most.
As mentioned, Aldershot have already confirmed their release list – but have allowed all goalkeepers and the majority of their defenders to depart, which means their rebuild is likely to be more complex than Solihull’s.
Whilst the goals of Bradley Stevenson are likely to need replacing this summer, the fact that the majority of key assets are under contract is certainly useful for maintaining squad morale and ensuring the available budget is spent in the key areas needed rather than being potentially wasted on positions that are already strong.
