Steven Schumacher Previews Season-Defining Bolton Wanderers Clash

Bolton Wanderers head coach Steven Schumacher insists his side are fully prepared for “one of hardest games you can get” ahead of their trip to fellow promotion contenders Lincoln City on Saturday.

Five wins from their last six games have pulled the Trotters into the automatic promotion picture in recent weeks. This has seen them move up to third in League One, albeit six points behind Saturday’s opponents.

The visit to the LNER Stadium represents a huge opportunity to close the gap, especially as the Greater Manchester-based side have played a game more than the Imps. However, they are up against a team who are currently on the longest unbeaten run in the EFL (13 games) and who haven’t tasted a home league defeat since losing 1-0 to Exeter City on October 4th.

Schumacher Refusing To Underestimate Opponents

Bolton have won their last four, although only one of these have come on the road. That success came at mid-table AFC Wimbledon, although it is worth noting that they have only emerged victorious in two of their last six away fixtures.

Confidence remains high though, although Schumacher understands the magnitude of the test that awaits his team. Speaking to The Bolton Newsthe former Plymouth Argyle boss said:

“We know what we have got about us, and if we can play to the level we think we can get to, we are a match for any team.

“Now going to Lincoln at the moment is one of hardest games you can get – they have only lost once at home all season, same as us.

“It will be a good game, and we have to make sure we prepare right for it.”

Lincoln Continue To Overachieve

There’s little doubt that Lincoln are the surprise package in League One this season. They comfortably possess one of the smallest budgets in the division and were widely tipped for another mid-table finish.

Under the guidance of Michael Skubala, the Imps have built an extremely talented squad which is showing all the qualities of one that is capable of reaching the Championship. If they were to achieve that, it would be the first time the East Midlanders have played in the second tier since 1961.

A win over Bolton on Saturday would open up a nine point gap on their promotion rivals and keep the heat on leaders Cardiff City. The Bluebirds host Luton Town this weekend knowing a defeat could see them drop to second in the table.
