Blackpool midfielder Rob Apter has signed a new contract at Blackpool until 2027 and rejoined Tranmere Rovers on loan until the end of the season, as confirmed via a statement on the club’s website.

The deal will see the 20-year-old return to Prenton Park until the end of the season. This news will be sure to excite Rovers fans, who are already familiar with the player. Apter spent the first half of the 23/24 season on loan to Tranmere from Blackpool, scoring five goals and assisting a further two in 21 appearances.

However, the deal will also excite Blackpool fans. With many believing that he should be in and around their first team set-up, the loan deal will give them a chance to watch him develop and assess his capabilities ahead of next season when they could very well be a Championship side.

Apter has previously played for Chester, Scunthorpe United and Bamber Bridge, and represented Scotland at an Under-19 level, for whom he scored one goal in six appearances.

The player spoke to official club media after penning the new deal:

I’m made up, there has been a lot of talking. The talks started really early, as soon as I knew I was wanted back, the only thing I wanted to do was come back and play here.”

Writer’s View

From a Tranmere fan perspective, I think that Rob Apter has been imperative so far in turning results around following the dismissal of Ian Dawes and the appointment of Nigel Adkins.

He brings a spark of attacking quality that we tend to lack with the injury of Luke Norris. He has definitely proved himself and left his mark on Tranmere fans following his first loan spell, and he fits seamlessly into Nigel Adkins’ tactics. From an outsider’s perspective looking into Blackpool, it is hard to see where he would fit best in Neil Critchley’s plans.
