What Can Huddersfield Town Fans Expect from Lasse Sorensen? – Opinion

Huddersfield

Huddersfield Town signed Lasse Sorensen from Lincoln City in a deal worth up to £500k, which could already be a contender for the signing of the summer in League One.

Sorensen signs on a three-year deal and shows the Terriers’ ambition to go straight back up by signing one of the best right wing-backs in the league, which strengthens them by taking one of Lincoln’s best players.

But what can Huddersfield fans expect from the Lincoln City star?

Relationship With the Fans

Sorensen was a fan favourite at Lincoln and loved by everyone at the club. This was through his personality on and off the pitch, Lasse would always work hard and put in effort, although it took him time to win the fans over and show his ability. However, the work rate was always clear to see, and the fans appreciated that.

Lasse has a great engine on him which means he can run up and down all day and make great recovery tackles which always gets fans off their seats when the tackle is made.

Off the pitch is where the connection with Lasse became stronger, in the 22/23 season Lasse won the PFA Community Champion Award.

He continued his work throughout this season visiting fans and sending messages to fans who have fallen ill or who are in hospital. This just shows the person he is and why he is loved by fans and why he is a huge loss not to the team but the whole community and will be a real addition to the Terriers.

Work Rate

As I mentioned briefly above Lasse has a great engine which is one of his main attributes and shows why he is a great wing-back because he can get up and down the pitch for 90 minutes with no issues.

Sorensen will provide great energy by being able to help out attacks by getting up to speed quickly on transitions stretching the opposition and then being able to deliver a cross into the box or find a player who has a chance to score which he can do throughout the game.

His work rate also helps him stretch the opposition and always be an option when your team has the ball because he can hold width well, but his energy allows him to get there more quickly than others and cause the opposition problems constantly throughout the game due to his great engine. It’s not just going forward that Lasse’s work rate is useful for it is also for going backwards.

If Lincoln were getting transitioned on and were outnumbered, you could always count on Lasse running back and making a last-ditch tackle which he did numerous times throughout his time at the club.

His work rate would help him be able to defend in the last stages of the game against quick wingers who could go inside and out, and Sorensen would be able to shut them down like it was the first minute of the game and not the 95th due to his great levels of energy and commitment.

The Ability

Lasse has developed massively; he was a midfielder when he first joined Lincoln and he wasn’t very good to put it politely. When he moved into a right-back/ right-wing-back, he became a great player for Lincoln because it suited his attributes to a tee.

Lasse isn’t that great on the ball, he is okay, but it is not one of his best skills, Lasse has great physical attributes that make him a great wing-back.

I have already spoken about his work rate which is great also he is a strong runner with and without the ball, which makes his overlapping runs work by getting around his winger quickly and offering himself for a cross.

His crossing is very good and has come on a lot with his ability on the ball and this is backed up with his eight assists in all competitions last season.

Also, his running defensively which I spoke about before about him being able to get back and help defend quickly. His dribbling has also improved which helps by that he is a strong runner and is fast when he gets going so defenders can’t get the ball off him which has also come on a lot.

Lasse also has an eye for goal this is backed up by his scoring six goals last season and most notably a cross that looped over the keeper to go in against Shrewsbury Town.

Lasse has really improved technically to become a solid footballer on the ball which he wasn’t when he joined but matched with great physical attributes makes him a great wing-back at this level.

In Summary

Huddersfield have a great player who will help them towards achieving their ambition of going straight back up as he is one of the best wing-backs in the league.

He is a brilliant player on the pitch but also a brilliant person off it.

He will provide consistent performances throughout the season and will be one of your key players and will be available for every game.
