Woking announce double departure - The Deck - Entertainment, Film, Film News

Woking Fc has today announced the double loan departure of defender Greg Taylor to King’s Lynn and striker Alfie Pavey to Braintree, both confirmed via statements on the club’s website.

Sitting just outside the relegation zone, Woking has had a season almost the polar opposite of last season, where they finished 4th in the division. With Darren Sarll out the door and new manager Michael Doyle in and keen to stamp his image on the side, the cards let go today of 2 players who have struggled at times this season to make the impact expected.
Greg Taylor was signed in the summer from League One side Cambridge, and being a fan favourite and captain of the side, bringing high expectations to the Woking fans. Unfortunately, its not quite work out as expected for the 33-year-old, Making 23 appearances during Sarll’s poor spell this season with a handful of poor performances, Taylor quickly fell out of favour and since the arrival of Michael Doyle was yet to make a matchday squad.
Taylor has now joined National League North strugglers King’s Lynn until the end of the season, where he will look to impose some experience and quality at the back, seemingly being bought in as the replacement for new Southend signing Adam Crowther and will look to secure them National League North status for next season.
Alfie Pavey also departed the club, returning to their former club Braintree until the end of the season. Pavey started the season on fire with Farnborough, scoring 8 goals in 10 games, which led to Woking spending a rumoured 35k on the striker, but like Taylor, it’s just not worked out for Pavey.
Appearing 10 times for the Cards and failing to score, Pavey has struggled to find his shooting boots since his big move, and will now look to find them again in Angelo Harrop’s impressive Braintree side. The Iron sit just outside of the playoff places in the National League South, and they will hope Pavey can bring some firepower to push them into the top 7.

As a Woking fan myself, I think this is the right move for all. Not worked out for the pair here and a move to a lower standard to regain confidence will be good for them both. With Woking struggling too it will free up some wage for possible incomings, but the departure of Pavey stings after spending such a big fee for a National League side on him.
