25-Year-Old Former Nottingham Forest Man Attracting League Two Interest

League Two Grimsby Town are reportedly interested in securing the signing of cross-county rivals Lincoln City’s number two goalkeeper Jordan Wright this summer.

The 25-year-old former Nottingham Forest youth joined the Imps mid-way through the 2021/22 season as a backup to then-number-one Josh Griffiths. The goalkeeper then continued to play back up to Carl Rushworth and then Lukas Jensen in subsequent seasons.

Now according to reports in The Real EFL, League Two Grimsby Town are interested in securing his signing as he enters the final year of his contract.

How well has Jordan Wright performed for Lincoln City?

The role of number two goalkeeper can be a difficult one to manage, you know that more than likely you are going to be restricted to a handful of appearances, primarily in cup competitions. However, Wright has performed admirably whenever he has been called upon. There was a period when Josh Griffiths found himself sidelined for an extended period so that the former Alfreton Town man became an honorary number one appearing in the final 13 games of the season in the League.

He has appeared 31 times for the Imps with nine of those coming in the EFL Trophy. The towering ‘keeper became a hero for the Imps as he helped win two out of the three penalty shootouts he was involved in (Morecambe EFL Trophy & Barrow EFL Cup).

Will he suit Grimsby Town?

The transition from number two to number one may be a difficult one, however, David Artell is a manager who has patience with his players and at 25 years old, Wright will feel he has what it takes to be a regular starter. With the remarkable form of Lukas Jensen at Lincoln City, it looks likely that the player could find himself reduced to less than 10 appearances as he nears the end of his deal, which will mean he may struggle to secure a spot as a free agent. Grimsby only have Jake Eastwood as a senior goalkeeping option so at the very minimum it provides solid competition for places as the Mariners continue to plan towards a better 24/25 season.
