Colchester United Loanee Set For League One Summer Switch

Published

on

Colchester United loanee Owen Goodman is expected to make a move into League One next season in order to continue his development, as confirmed by journalist Alan Nixon.

The 20-year-old is currently on loan from Premier League side Crystal Palace and has established himself as a number one in League Two so far this season and reports suggest that the shot-stopper will be promoted up a division next season.

How has Goodman faired this season?

Goodman joined Colchester United in the summer in what was his first senior loan spell of his career. Since then, the goalkeeper has made 37 appearances in all competitions for Danny Cowley’s side.

During these matches, Goodman has kept four clean sheets for the relegation-threatened side, averaging 3.1 saves per game and has also saved two penalties in league matches so far this season.

In what’s been a difficult season for Danny Cowley’s new side, Goodman has remained one of the club’s brightest performers.

A difficult campaign

Despite the form of Goodman, Colchester United as a whole have experienced a difficult 2023/24 season and now Danny Cowley and his team have just eight games left to secure their EFL status.

During their opening 38 league games, Colchester have earned just 37 points and are currently above the relegation zone by a single point.

On Good Friday, Colchester United earned their first victory since the end of January when they beat an in-form Newport County, although things have improved in terms of results with the U’s losing just once in their last seven matches.

Which clubs could target Goodman?

Currently, Alan Nixon is yet to reveal which clubs could be interested in signing the 20-year-old, but there are a couple of clubs that have loanees in League One at the moment.

For example, Northampton Town are currently using loanee Louie Moulden from Wolverhampton Wanderers whilst Wigan’s Sam Tickle is reportedly attracting the interest of Championship side Sunderland.
