Former Portsmouth Playmaker Tipped For League One Switch

Published

on

Former Portsmouth playmaker Ronan Curtis is a summer target for League One side Bristol Rovers ahead of the expiry of his contract, according to journalist Dan Hargraves via Bristol Live.

The 28-year-old is currently contract with League Two side AFC Wimbledon and remains in discussions over a new deal amongst interest from several other clubs across the EFL.

How has he faired since joining Wimbledon?

The Irishman arrived at AFC Wimbledon in January, six months after his departure from League One side Portsmouth. This was his first appearance since suffering an horrific ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury.

Curtis made 17 appearances in all competitions for the Dons this season, contributing to seven goals including a memorable strike against rivals MK Dons at New Plough Lane.

What is his current contract situation?

After signing a short-term contract in January, Curtis is currently set to see his contract expire at AFC Wimbledon and talks remain ongoing in regards to a new contract, which also opens the door for rival sides to swoop in and land the Irishman.

On their official retained list, Wimbledon confirmed that Curtis was “in discussions” over a new deal, which doesn’t directly confirm that he has been offered terms.

Bristol Rovers have lost loanees Harry Vaughan and Harvey Vale from the wide areas of the pitch, leaving an opening for at least one new winger to join the football club.

Would a move to League One benefit Curtis?

Curtis has made over 180 appearances in the third tier with Portsmouth and will be able to adapt to the division once again if he was to join Bristol Rovers in the summer.

Similarly, there are spaces for wingers in the Bristol Rovers squad after two loanees returned to their parent clubs, which suggests that Curtis would receive a lot of first team minutes.

Readers, do you think this would be a good move for Ronan Curtis?
