GTA V Story-Mode: Five Best Characters – Opinion

Published

on

Grand Theft Auto V introduced us to some of the most iconic and creative characters in gaming history, from lunatics like Trevor Phillips to comedic gangsters like Lamar, but which five are my personal favourite from the game?

In total, there are 124 characters that players are introduced to within the GTA V story. Breaking this figure down, there are three main characters, 12 main side characters, 11 smaller side characters, 21 strangers & freaks characters, 41 minor characters, 13 heist characters and 23 soap-boxer characters.

The level of importance of these characters depends on the number of missions they are involved in and the effect that each of them has on the story itself.

I have then selected the five story-mode characters that I enjoyed the most throughout the campaign.

Let’s begin…

5) Solomon Richards

Potentially an odd inclusion to many, but Solomon Richards was one of the individuals that I enjoyed doing missions for. Each one had a different mechanic that we hadn’t yet seen in the story and offered comedic value to each of the missions.

Solomon is used various times within the story and also has a great relationship with Michael, which allows the player to learn more about his back story than we originally did the old humour within each mission makes for some intriguing dialogue and overall he’s one of the few characters that doesn’t let you down.

4) Trevor Phillips

Some may have placed Trevor higher, but as my experience of other characters isn’t as high as some, I’ve never met a character like Trevor in a video game before hence why I have decided to place him lower than expected.

However, if you ignore some of his strange behavioural traits, Trevor is a once-in-a-lifetime character. His missions are often very chaotic and involve killing, kidnapping or blowing up rival gangs and there is truly nothing quite like it within the game.

3) Michael De Santa

Another of the main characters, Michael takes the third spot on this list even despite a handful of his missions being less entertaining than some of the other characters.

Michael is the only character that has a family that we meet in the game, which leads to some truly unique dialogue and scenes within the GTA V story. He also has the ‘family man’ trait, even if he doesn’t show it for the vast majority of the time and with the access of his shrink – Michael is arguably the character we know the most about in-game.

2) Franklin Clinton

Just missing out on the number one spot is Franklin Clinton, a perfect example of a ‘rags to riches’ character as he goes from an amateur criminal to a criminal mastermind.

Taking GTA Online as an example, our characters follow an almost identical rise to Franklin, which allows players to react better to his presence and truly develop a connection to the character. He also has Chop and a lot of humorous moments and is simply someone you cannot dislike.

1) Lamar Davis

However, taking the top spot is none other than Lamar Davis and in my personal opinion, he is one of the greatest characters in the entire franchise let alone just GTA V.

Whenever players have a mission with Lamar, it always contains plenty of humorous dialogue, action-packed objectives and an overall sense of happiness. I am confident that if GTA fans had the option of choosing one character to have his own spin-off game, Lamar would be their pick.
