It’s been a chaotic summer at Manchester United on and off the pitch. Off the pitch, the club has splashed the cash on Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. On the pitch, the Red Devils have picked up one point from a possible six in the Premier League.
The club are looking to move on multiple players before Monday’s deadline. However, a Premier League club has rejected the chance to sign one of those players.
Manchester United Man Offer Rejected by Premier League Rivals
According to Jacob Steinberg, Manchester United goalkeeper, Andre Onana, has been offered to Premier League rivals, West Ham United. However, the Hammers have rejected the chance to sign the 29 year old. The deal would have been a loan move with no obligation to buy.
United are in the market for another ‘keeper after Onana’s disastrous displays.
The Cameroon international was at fault for a goal against League Two side, Grimsby Town, as United exited the Carabao cup to fourth tier opposition for the first time in their history.
Onana has also been dropped from both Premier League starting XIs this season.
Ruben Amorim has opted to start Altay Bayindir in both games; however, Bayindir was at fault for the only goal in the opening day defeat to Arsenal.
Are Both Clubs In The Right?
After the goalkeeper’s dismal performances, West Ham have dodged a bullet here.
United conceded 54 Premier League goals last season, eight fewer than the Hammers. However, West Ham finished a point ahead of the Red Devils last season.
West Ham have conceded 10 goals in three games so far this season. A ‘keeper, then, is a priority for Graham Potter before Monday’s deadline. However, the London side should steer far away from Onana.
Manchester United are also right to offer the Cameroonian out on loan.
The keeper has been a liability since joining the club in the summer of 2023 from Inter Milan. With Senne Lammens set to join, Onana will be surplus to requirements this season.
Therefore, a move away is the right move for all parties.
