Morecambe Identify Managerial Target

Published

on

Morecambe have reportedly identified former Accrington Stanley coach Jimmy Bell as a potential candidate for their vacant managerial position following the departure of Ged Brannan, according to Alan Nixon.

Brannan departed the club as they continued to suffer from ongoing financial issues to take over as assistant manager at Accrington Stanley. The 52-year-old had indicated concerns over playing staff going into the 24/25 season, with many players set to leave the club and there being little budget to replace them. He took charge of 29 League Two games, winning nine, drawing seven and losing thirteen which was enough to ensure a 15th place finish, 16 points above the relegation zone.

Who Is His Potential Replacement?

Jimmy Bell is currently manager of Clitheroe FC in the Northern Premier League Division One West since 10th April 2024, after departing Accrington Stanley alongside long-serving manager John Coleman. The 59-year-old has also had spells as Assistant Manager at Sligo Rover, Southport, Rochdale and Ashton United as well as a spell as the reserve team coach at Port Vale.

Morecambe – A Club On The Brink?

What is happening at Morecambe should be getting more mainstream coverage. Like many EFL clubs before it such as Scunthorpe United and Bury it is being left to rot through a lack of funding. If it wasn’t for the dedicated work through some of the staff and board members it may have already fallen into the sea. The fans need a miracle and no matter who comes in as the new boss, will be faced with the same problems and potentially starting the 24/25 season without a squad to compete with. Whilst teams in the Premier League complain about having to use a £15 million player because their £30 million player is tired, some fans are just happy that the club that their family have supported for generations still exists.
