Notts County have joined two League One sides in the race to sign Tamworth playmaker Jamie Jellis as the January transfer window continues to loom, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke from Football Insider.
The 22-year-old has continued to impress in the National League North so far this season and has now attracted fierce attention from several EFL sides as we approach the final weeks before the January transfer window opens.
Jellis burst onto the professional scene with League One side Stevenage as well as enjoying several Non-League loan spells but was officially released by Steve Evans’ side in July 2020.
He joined Tamworth on loan from Kings Langley in November 2022 and helped the football club to achieve promotion into the National League North before signing permanently in the summer.
The midfielder has made 17 league appearances for Andy Peaks’ side so far this season, scoring during their 1-0 victory against Blyth Spartans.
Tamworth are back in league action on Tuesday evening as they host Brackley Town in the National League North, looking to extend their lead at the top of the table ahead of the likes of Scunthorpe United and South Shields.
According to Football Insider, Notts County, Peterborough United and Wycombe Wanderers are all interested in signing the 22-year-old once the transfer window opens.
Peterborough especially have a solid reputation for acquiring and improving Non-League talents with examples ranging from Jack Taylor to Ronnie Edwards and are also likely to have the biggest budget although that doesn’t place them as favourites.
Writer’s View
Jellis is a talented midfielder who has been the glue holding Tamworth’s midfield together this season and losing him would put a huge dent in their title aspirations.
However, if an EFL side did land him, they would be getting a very good midfielder who has plenty of years to be able to grow and develop and hopefully become a first-team star with his new side.
