Notts County are set to complete the signing of Morecambe defender Jacob Bedeau on a free transfer, according to a report from journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 24-year-old is available on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract with the Shrimps and is likely to swap the North West for the Midlands with Stuart Maynard’s side.

How did Bedeau fair last season?

Despite Morecambe experiencing a tricky 2023/24 campaign, Bedeau remained one of the club’s standout performers during the previous campaign.

Bedeau made 43 league appearances in League Two last season, scoring twice and providing an additional assist. These goals came against Harrogate Town and Doncaster Rovers respectfully.

In terms of his in-depth statistics, Bedeau made 1.7 tackles per game as well as 4.6 clearances and 4.4 ball recoveries per 90 minutes. He also helped to keep seven clean sheets including one against Notts County back in August during a goalless draw.

What will Bedeau add to Notts County?

The 24-year-old has been on the books at both Aston Villa and Burnley as well as gaining a lot of EFL experience during his spells with Morecambe and Scunthorpe United respectfully.

He’s 6ft tall, making him a strong presence in both penalty areas and has featured once for Grenada at international level.

Bedeau is also quick and isn’t afraid to pass out from the back, averaging a passing success rate of 79% when inside his own half of the pitch, something that Notts County liked to do but struggled at last season.

Will this move be a positive decision for Bedeau?

During the previous campaign, Bedeau proved that he can stay fit, lead by example and score goals in the fourth tier, which is likely to be a big reason behind Notts County’s interest.

Stuart Maynard’s side slipped to a 14th-placed finish last season, despite having the division’s top scorer in Macaulay Langstaff. This is likely due to them conceding 86 league goals.

With the club already releasing several defenders this summer, Bedeau will likely experience a lot of game time at Notts County and could help them push towards promotion to League One.
