Lincoln City Man Lays Clear Lasse Sorensen Transfer Options

Lincoln City director of football Jez George has laid clear the options that the Imps have in relation to fan-favourite Lasse Sorensen.

In his appearance on the latest episode of BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s Red Imps Club podcast, George spoke about the possibility of Sorensen being sold by Lincoln this summer.

The Dane is under contract for the upcoming season, after Lincoln City triggered an option to extend his stay at the LNER Stadium for another year.

What has Jez George said?

Speaking to BBC Radio Lincolnshire journalist Michael Hortin, George said: “We entered into negotiations with Lasse’s representatives early in the season to see if there was any way of us extending Lasse’s contract.”

He added: “There reaches a point financially where we can’t make any difference to the player because of our structures. It’s right and proper that the club sticks with that.”

The Imps director of football confirmed the two options his club have, saying: “We can either sell Lasse this summer, and the club get some money, and therefore we realise an asset in terms of; we spent a fee, we invested, and we get a return on that. Or, we enjoy Lasse for one more season and see his value on the pitch, and know if we were promoted to the Championship that we could keep him for longer.”

A Lincoln City fan-favourite:

Sorensen featured in 44 of Lincoln’s 46 SkyBet League One fixtures this season. In all, he made 51 appearances for the Imps, scoring six goals and contributing eight assists.

That made the wing-back Lincoln City’s top appearance maker for the 2023/24 season, one ahead of both fellow countryman Lukas Jensen and Scottish midfielder Ethan Erhahon. Only the Scot and goalkeeper Jensen managed more minutes than Sorensen in the previous season.

Should he stay, or should be go? – Opinion

In his podcast appearance, former Cambridge United manager Jez George confirmed that Lincoln City had taken a “option year” in Sorensen’s three-year contract, to extend his stay to four years.

That leaves two possible outcomes: either Lincoln sell the wing-back this summer, or they hold onto him for the season in hopes of securing a promotion into the SkyBet Championship that could keep him in the red and white of the Imps beyond that point.

In my opinion, I would find it difficult to see the Imps turning away a substantial offer from a side in the division above, knowing there is a risk of losing Sorensen without earning any profit the following season.

That being said, it is set to be an interesting summer, as the talk around Sorensen’s transfer status is likely to rumble on.
