PlayStation Set To Remove Blockbuster Exclusive From PS Plus

Published

on

PlayStation is set to remove one of its most popular first-party games from its PlayStation Plus subscription catalogue later this month.

Horizon Zero Dawn, the first entry into the machine-hunting action-adventure series by Guerrilla Games is set to come off PlayStation Plus Extra on the 21st of May 2024 according to its listing on the PlayStation Store. The Complete Edition, which includes the expansion Frozen Wilds became a stand-out hit from the creators of KillZone.

The listing reads;

“Upgrade to PlayStation Plus Extra to access this game and hundreds more in the Game Catalogue. Offer ends 21/5/2024.”

Despite Zero Dawn’s removal its sequel, Forbidden West remains available on the Extra tier which takes protagonist Aloy further from her home in her quest to uncover the truth of what threatens her world.

What could be the reason for the removal?

PlayStation often refreshes its line-up with titles being added and removed every month. However, the version of Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition that is available on PlayStation Plus is a PlayStation 4 version of the game, with a 60 FPS update that makes it playable on PS5 hardware. It has been suggested that Guerrilla have been working on a native PS5 remaster of the game, which will bring it more in line with Forbidden West. Naughty Dog, another PlayStation Studio, recently followed a similar tactic by re-releasing the first The Last of Us game as The Last of Us Part One to be more in line with Part Two. The removal, therefore, could be in preparation for the re-release of the first game.

What else is being removed from PlayStation Plus?

Unfortunately this month 25 titles are being removed from PlayStation Plus including six final fantasy games.

The following games are set to leave the service;
