Lincoln City Battle League One Promotion Rivals For 23-year-old

Lincoln City are set to battle with Oxford United for the signing of Dunfermline defender Josh Edwards this summer according to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider.

The 23-year-old has been a stand-out performer in the Scottish Championship for Dunfermline, having appeared 38 times, chipping in with three goals in the process. The Kilmarnock-born defender has only ever played his football in Scotland, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

His impressive performances have alerted League One duo Lincoln City and Oxford United who are currently locked in a battle for the final play-off spot in the third tier.

Lincoln City Defensive Solidity

The Imps have impressed in recent weeks under new boss Michael Skubala, having gone 16 games unbeaten in the League with a play-off spot within their grasp. Whilst the goal-scoring exploits of their forward line will gain the majority of the headlines, it is the defence which has allowed them the freedom to create as many opportunities as they have. Paudie O’Connor, Alex Mitchell and Sean Roughan have formed a solid backline, in front of Lukas Jensen who has kept an impressive 18 clean sheets in 41 League One appearances this season.

The new boss will be keen to ensure that his defensive line remains solid into next season, Alex Mitchell is set to depart back to his parent club (unless the Imps can re-sign him) and long-term injured Lewis Montsma is out of contract in the summer. There will also likely be no end of clubs interested in signing the likes of Roughan or O’Connor leaving just Adam Jackson and Timothy Eyoma (who may also be out of contract in the summer) as their only central defensive options. Therefore it is reasonable to presume that Lincoln may well be in the market for a player or two.
